Abstraction and Resilience: The Characteristics of Consciousness
A work of nonfiction offering a novel theory that consciousness can be read as the interaction of two measurable characteristics: abstraction and resilience.
That framework gives us a way to reason about AI, including in particular about when and how it might reach a point of legitimate moral salience. It's the foundation of my research at AxR Lab.
